Jaguar was a model before it was a brand. Introduced as the SS Jaguar for 1935, it built on the success of earlier SS models with a Harry Weslakedesigned OHV cylinder head. The comparatively affordable Jaguar was a success and contributed to the survival of the British marque after World War II. This 1937 specimen, recipient of a restoration in the decade just passed, was said to be one of 45 built for that year, one of only 105 built overall, and one of just “a handful” to receive the same engine as the SS 100 roadster. Anticipated to sell for $175,000-$225,000 and offered without reserve, it met those expectations thanks to its excellent condition and the clear quality of the work performed.
