FUNNY YOU SHOULD ASK

Dear FYSA,

Once again, we are entering NaNoWriMo and I am determined to get a first draft down in November. What is one good tip you would offer before I start?

Signed,
Draft Determined

Dear DD,

In the spring of 2019, Husband and I had all of the carbohydrates ever … wait, I think a herd of carbohydrates is called a noodle. OK, so in the spring of 2019 Husband and I had a noodle of carbohydrates. As summer was approaching, we decided to have a little friendly wager on who could lose the greater percentage of losing kept me motivated to give myself mini goals along the way to keep me flushed with the feeling of winning. So! I would ask you to start there, by identifying if your NaNoWriMo will thrive better with discipline or motivation. If it’s discipline, maybe set your alarm 60-90 minutes before you usually rise and get in that chair. Every. Day. If it’s motivation, create incentives for yourself at word count thresholds. Once you find your fuel, you can find your pace and stride and you’re off ! And, look, since you already have that idea noodling around, ain’t nothin’ that says you can’t tap out a few pages in October to get the engine revved, so that your foot is already on the gas on November 1. Either way, congrats for setting the goal to begin with—honor that as well. Good luck!
