WELL, THIS IS interesting. Maserati’s new flagship is a high-tech carbonfibre-tubbed supercar, with pricing, performance, and wow factor to compete with — and, perhaps, even humble — the very best supercars in the world. And that includes former Fiat Chrysler stablemates Ferrari.
It’s an ashamed headline-grabbing supercar, but its role as such makes it the spearhead of a make-or-break comeback plan for Il Tridente. The MC20 is the halo above a brand relaunch that includes hundreds of millions of euros of investment in its factories, a new SUV sibling to the Levante, a new high-tech engine family (starting life in the MC20) and a pure electric GranTurismo/ GranCabrio successor. Maserati have been in the doldrums but they do not plan to stay there.
