I feel second best

Q I know the Irish rhyme ‘a daughter’s a daughter for life; a son’s a son until he finds a wife’. But I never thought it would happen to me. My son is married to a girl who’s very close to her mother. The other day, since we’re shielding, I said I’d call and have a video chat with my nine-year-old granddaughter. I was told it had to be short as my daughter-in-law’s brother was visiting for the day. We were on the phone for less than an hour. Surely, I’m allowed a little time with her?
