Over two decades ago, I bought a pre-1963 motorcycle which had been awarded an ‘A’ suffix registration mark when a past owner, or dealer, transferred its original registration mark under a past DVLA (then DVLC) Personalised Registrations scheme, aka cherished registrations. Reasoning that while an age related registration mark isn’t the original and is often recognisable as such, it is better than an ‘A’ suffix and much better than ‘Q’ suffix registration mark.
A dating letter was willingly provided by a specialist one make club for my purpose and, along with all appropriate documentation including valid insurance, MoT test certificate (then a requirement), V5 copy and my proof of identity, the application was made.

A few weeks later, DVLA requested I made an appointment to have the machine inspected at our local licensing office (Peterborough) and with that box ticked,
