awoke at 3:30am on a Saturday to the sound of rain drumming on the rooftop. It was an inauspicious start for the opening day of the 2020-2021 Game-Bird Season. I had packed the truck the previous day, so all I had to do was pull on my boots, make some breakfast, load the lunch cooler, feed the dog, and secure her in the truck kennel.
