A salute to the Street CORO BLIMEY, IT’S BEEN 60 YEARS!

They said it wouldn’t last. When Coronation Street first started screening on December 9, 1960, the reception was lukewarm.

Only 13 episodes had been commissioned and one critic predicted it would be cancelled after three weeks.

“The programme is doomed from the outset,” wrote Ken Irwin in the Daily Mirror.

But six decades later, the show is still going strong and is in the Guinness Book of Records as the longest-running TV soap opera in the world.

This month, as Coro celebrates its 60th birthday, we take a trip down memory lane.
