Kamala Harris’s ascent is a victory for marginalised women

“MAMA, she looks just like you”, my 7-year-old son shrieked out in a gasp of delight. It was a few days before the official results of the tight US elections would be announced and I had been taking the time to explain a little about the red and blue map story I was fervently following morning to night on television. For an instant, I was a little flattered to be likened to this woman with beautiful dark hair, elegant bone structure and an electric smile, but the realisation dawned on me as big and bright as Kamala Harris’s smile.
