GREEK TRAGEDIES

The Pontikos family from Oinousses, near Chios in the north Aegean Sea, had a long tradition of ship-owning since the age of sailing ships. During the post-World War II era they owned and operated a series of classic cargo ships on routes around the world.

By 1970 Captain Pontikos had established two companies in Piraeus: Ammoudi Shipping Agencies and Scorpios Cia Mar SA, which were managed by his son Costas E. Pontikos and son-in-law Loucas G. Carras. By 1980 the management of Pontikos Shipping Agencies Ltd largely rested in their hands, capably aided by Spyros Michaelides, who had been employed by the family company
