Compared to humans and other mammals, shows a unique, age-related pattern of gene expression DNA-repair-enriched genes that show this increase of expression in age reveals that the majority of these genes are functionally related (below). The presence of a number of them (colour coded at left) suggests that may have evolved complex DNA repair mechanisms to enhance healthy ageing. To check that such characteristics are unique to bats, researchers compared bat blood transcriptomes to those for humans, wolves and mice (far left). They found that the bat genes included in the comparison show a much higher positive correlation with age.
