MARCH TIPS

■ If you don’t have a light in your greenhouse or polytunnel, it’s well worth fitting a battery or solar lamp■ Make sure you have a good supply of quality compost ready for seed sowing and potting through the busy spring months and bring it under cover to warm it through.■ Remember to use your max/min thermometer on a regular basis to record the minimum night and maximum day temperatures. This info is vital to help regulate vents and heating.■ Look over seedlings regularly and check their progress. Check for leaves being nibbled, which is usually caused by slugs looking for some tender food to munch on!■ Don’t be tempted to get carried away and start sowing all your vegetable seeds too early. Some can be sown now if you can provide the correct conditions for germination, but others are best left for a few weeks until it’s naturally warmer. Sowing dates on the packet are only a guide.
