PEONY SEASON
It is believed that the peony is named after Paeon, the physician to the Greek gods. In one legend, Paeon used peony root to heal Pluto. His superior, Aesculapius, the god of medicine, became so jealous of Paeon’s talents that he tried to kill him. To save the good doctor, Pluto transformed him into a peony to be admired forever.
