BUILD YOUR OWN ALEXA SKILL

Creating an Alexa skill is a lot easier than you might think. To be sure, the standard development process requires a certain level of experience in programming and technical design: you can read Amazon’s official guidelines at pcpro.link/318custom.

But you’re not looking for a coding challenge, there’s an easier way. Amazon also offers a set of handy “blueprints”, which hide away the underlying code and let you create new skills in a form-based environment, with integrated error checking every step of the way.

On the following pages we’ll show you how to use blueprints to build two Alexa skills. The first will be of most use to home users as a repository of commonly forgotten information, while the second can be used to promote a business through the Echo platform’s “flash briefing” tool.
