READING THE Ford GT40 cover feature in Octane 206, I realised that I had driven and photographed the Mark III on the cover, M3/1101, for the July 1967 issue of Hi-Performance Cars magazine, 53 years ago [pictured right]! If I remember correctly, it was the New York Auto Show car.
The negative comments about it mentioned from the original Car and Driver story (they had the same car a week or two before I did) were, and still are, questionable. When I drove it, it had none of the problems that they wrote about and the car was not repaired before I got it. The build quality was not great, but mechanically it was perfect. It was an incredible thrill to drive.
