We hit a pretty important milestone in the Volkswagen world recently. On December 27, 1945, 75 years ago, British Major Ivan Hirst picked up the remnants of the bombed out Wolfsburg factory and began producing the “Type 1 Volkswagen Limousine”, better known today as the Beetle.
During the war years, the KdF-Stadt factory was producing vehicles for the German war effort, but production finally had to be halted
