MiniWorld tribute: Rémy Julienne
Precision stunt driver, Rémy Julienne, who turned the Mini Cooper into a movie star with his work on 1969 film The Italian Job, died in January at the age of 90. Once described as the "daredevil of French cinema," Rémy’s 40-year career saw him participate in more than 1,400 productions, including six James Bond movies.
Born in the village of Cepoy in the Loiret, Julienne was riding motorbikes by the with his BSA Gold Star, hoping to secure work. The stunt supervisor, Gil Delamare, was impressed and Julienne never looked back. “At the time, I had no career plan but I was a big fan of cinema.” At first, he worked alone but soon built up a core team of drivers and mechanics forming L’Équipe Rémy Julienne.
