RAPHAEL IN ROME

Despite prevailing circumstances this year, commemorations have been taking place, with major highlights in Rome in a comprehensive exhibition at the Scuderie del Quirinale

On the 6th of April 1520, the Urbino-born artist and architect Raphael Sanzio died suddenly while working for the Vatican in Rome. He was only thirty-seven years old and at the peak of his career. The pope, Leo X, wept. Raphael’s friends and lover wept. His patrons wept.
