    Unlucky for Some

    THE instant Emma Maxwell’s radio alarm clock woke her, the morning DJ reminded everyone of the date: it was Friday the 13th. Emma smiled. She didn’t believe in bad luck. Even if she had, nothing could ruin her day as she was due to meet her boyfriend, Mark Thompson, that night.

    A little while later, as she sat daydreaming on the bus on her way to work, Emma wondered why so many people fretted over Friday the 13th. After all, it was just another day. As far as Emma could remember nothing particularly unlucky had ever happened to her on any previous Friday the 13th.
