Alternative energy solutions amid tariff hikes, load shedding

LOAD SHEDDING and tariff hikes have led to some South Africans considering alternate solutions to energy.
The National Energy Regulator of SA (Nersa) recently announced that Eskom would be allowed to increase electricity tariffs by 15.63% in the 2021/22 financial year. And Eskom recently said the current shortages of electricity generation infrastructure amounted to a deficit of 4 000 megawatts (MW). It said this was a gap that might widen should the demand for electricity increase.
Eskom estimated that without additional capacity there would be an electricity supply shortfall of between 4 000MW and 6 000MW over the next five years, as old coal-fired power stations reached their end
