MasterChef Australia is perhaps the most successful cooking show to hit our screens in recent years. It first aired back in 2009, when more than 7000 people auditioned to be a part of the show for the chance to be crowned Australia’s first MasterChef. From there, an almost cult-like following developed. MasterChef became more than just watercooler talk; it redefined the norm, with the creation of gourmet dishes no longer reserved for high-end chefs but instead the domain of everyday viewers.
A slew of celebrity chefs made appearances on the show and it grew and grew. Nigella Lawson, Curtis Stone, Maggie Beer, Heston Blumenthal — they’ve all graced our screens as a part of the MasterChef series, some multiple times. Gordon Ramsay even famously said of some of the dishes he had in the most recent season, “I think I’ve tasted some of the best food Australia has to offer!”
This year, MasterChef will bring us even more dishes to salivate over, with judges Jock Zonfrillo, Melissa Leong and Andy Allen at the helm, directing the newest round of kitchen hopefuls through a series of challenges to discover who will be crowned Australia’s next MasterChef.
