Building your CORE STRENGTH

THE CONDITION OF your core affects the whole of your body, so it’s a great area to focus on when you’re starting a new yoga regime. Yoga is like an antidote to modern life and the core muscles of the torso need to be strong and stable in order to support the back and help prevent spinal problems, now and in the future. This 15-minute yoga sequence will enable you to build your core strength, featuring a series of asanas (physical postures). I practice Vinyasa Krama yoga, which is a traditional method that includes asanas (physical postures), pranayama (breath control), pratyahara (sense withdrawal) and meditation. This sequence focuses mainly on asanas.

Before you start

• Make sure you won’t be disturbed during the session – turn off your phone and devote time to yourself.• It’s best to practise in comfortable clothing using a yoga mat.• Ensure you have enough space to enable you to stretch your arms in all directions, including above your head.• This sequence• Feeling stretched is good, but avoid pain. You may achieve some postures comfortably, others may test you, and some you may be working towards. Yoga will meet you where you are.
