One of the great challenges of science fiction is to imagine non-terrestrial species that make sense, but that also don’t look, act or think like us. How many of the original Star Trek aliens weren’t bipedal, didn’t have ocular organs positioned above atmospheric exchange apparatus and didn’t communicate through modulating vibrations in the air? Telepathy doesn’t count, because that’s just cheating. And it’s also not science.
