1 Bassdrum
Since Techno is very rhythm oriented, many producers start with beat programming. And that‘s exactly how we proceed with our 120 BPM fast Melodic Techno track. For the bass drum, we use the Microtonic [1] drum synth, a plug-in classic with a sound all its own. Click on the arrow in the upper left corner and then on Initialize Preset.

2 Customize preset
Select the first drum slot and then click on the smaller of the two displays to load a drum patch. We choose „SC BD BasketBall“from the „Bass Drum Patches“folder. This sound is already quite close to the desired sound. To play the bass drum chromatically, we set Osc Freq to C1.

3 Adjust bassdrum
Also activate by clicking on the keyboard symbol. Now you can tune the bass drum to the root note of the track by triggering it via the respective MIDI note. Then adjust the other sound parameters of the drum synthesizer as shown. The bass drum plays on every quarter note.
