Always close to Gareth Locke’s heart is the work of Alzheimer’s Society. His mother Margaret (right, with Gareth and his elder brother Drew) was diagnosed with the disease aged only 56, more than ten years ago, and she is one of around 850,000 people with dementia in the UK.
Dementia sufferers and their families have been hard hit by restrictions during the pandemic – Gareth found it incredibly difficult not being able to visit his mother. He is supporting the charity’s fundraising Cupcake Day on 17 June.
