    What’s a Grand Prix medal?

    Q I recently saw a Grand Prix trophy medal from a World Exhibition advertised for sale on a well-known online auction site. I thought that there were only three medals — gold, silver and bronze — so what was this one?

    A Grand Prix medals were awarded at several continental trophy exhibitions and shows. They were given at some national, international and world exhibitions too.

    Probably the best-known World Exhibition was the one held in Budapest in 1971 and I suspect the medal you saw advertised came from there.
