Williams adds to his Hickstead tally

HICKSTEAD has been the scene of many triumphs for Guy Williams – a previous Derby and multiple speed Derby victor – and although the historic event was replaced with this national show this year, he clearly revelled in the chance to make a return to the International Arena.

On the second day he took a double Al Shira’aa 1.40m open victory in a class so well-supported it had to be split in two, winning one half with Rouge De Ravel and the other with Mr Blue Sky UK, and closed the show with an outstanding grand prix win.

It’s a rare sight in the UK to see 88 riders contest a grand prix, especially on grass, and it was a fantastically broad line-up that came forward for
