TERPENE TALK: FRAGRANT DISCOVERIES

Cannabis products are more heavily regulated than water, yet the industry at large is still puzzling out how to offer consistency in the goods it manufactures. Terpenes are volatile, unsaturated hydrocarbons found in the essential oils of plants that provide aromas, tastes and effects that are highly sought after in cannabis.

High Times caught up with Max Koby, founding partner and CEO of the terpene flavor house Abstrax Tech, to learn about recent evolutions in terpene science and the way in which cutting-edge research is paving the way for the future of cannabis extracts. New data from Abstrax’s state-of-the-art research and extraction laboratory in Irvine, California, shows that different cannabis products (for example, live resin, rosin or flower) from the same cultivar can have noticeably different aromas and therefore varying effects.
