A TRULY TOURING T

The number of Model T Fords built and the number that exist today provide solid proof of the car’s popularity, but folklore aside, they weren’t all black and they weren’t all identical.

Ford introduced the Model T late in 1908 and if later examples with their three pedals and lack of a conventional shift lever can baffie modern drivers, the earliest cars with their two pedals and two levers can stump even an experienced Model T owner. Those early cars had water pumps — a feature soon dropped in favor of thermosyphon cooling — and even the design of the fenders was changed after the initial cars.
