EIGHTY YEARS ago, the people of Britain were under severe restrictions. Travel was difficult, food and clothing were rationed and – especially in the cities – they were in danger from German bombers and accidents in the blackout.
This year overseas travel is heavily restricted, but at least it looks like holidaying on home shores will offer relief from lockdown in this Staycation Summer.
However much we try to compare our year of lockdown and pandemic to those days, it’s difficult to make a case for what we are going through being anything like as tough as it was for our parents and grandparents.
You can combine a staycation with finding out a bit more about Second World War Britain and make up your own mind. Some of the best sites recalling those days are in popular holiday areas and will be opening their doors again this summer.
