MINOR CORRECTION
inter and the current atmosphere with Covid is the ideal time to relook at older magazines and past articles which we have read but in some cases have not fully absorbed. Take the article, Issue No. 272, August 2013, on the Morris Minor celebrating 100 years of Morris cars. The opening paragraph states the first Minor was made public in 1948, 35 years after Morris’s company founding in 1913. Wrong. Morris Minors were first produced in 1928 and went on sale in January 1929. William Morris saw an opening for a small car to compete with the rising sales of the Austin 7. Morris purchased the Wolseley Co. about 1926. At the time the Wolseley Hornet was being developed, and two cylinders were dropped from the 6-cyl. OHC motor to reduce the capacity to 847cc. This overhead cam (OHC) motor was used in the first Minors until the Depression introduced the side-valve motor about 1930 to reduce production costs. This motor was developed and carried on to the Morris 8s of 1934–’35.
