Screenplays are meant to be transformed to a visual medium, such as into a movie, a television show, a web series, or a short film—at least that is the dream for us hopeful scribes. However, when it comes to writing a screenplay, less is more on the page.
Generally speaking, movies have an average run time from 90 to 120 minutes. One script page is equal to one minute of screen time. With that said, a 120-page screenplay will equal to 120 minutes of screen time. How does a big blockbuster action-packed movie, a knee-slapping comedy, or sweeping romantic historical piece cram so much information into roughly 120 minutes or fewer? It is the job of the screenwriter to thoughtfully choose descriptive words to visually convey as much as possible
