For Sunyuul Yie, her first shoe experience is still a vivid memory. When visiting a department store with her mother as a young child, a fashion show played out on monitors. “The back of the models’ shoes is still a clear image in my head. A memory that was quite attractive and came as a symbol of adulthood,” she says. The Korean designer launched Yuul Yie in 2010, since the brand has become recognised for its artistic silhouettes and innovative Y heels – that break away from the traditional square shape. She sees her designs as wearable objects of art, everything is developed in-house and celebrity fans include Selena Gomez, Camila Mendes, Jasmine Sanders, Emma Roberts, Naomi Scott and influencer Brittany Xavier.
How would you describe the brand’s DNA?
We make unique and timeless designs then, of course, we prioritise comfort, functionality, and wearability. One of our core values is the beauty of imperfection, we value self-expression and cultivation of individuality through reflection. Yuul Yie originates from my own name, Sunyuul Yie, to convey the brand’s core of an unrestrained perspective, it serves as a creative outlet for me to communicate with others.
