You’re a passionate permaculturist. How do you describe permaculture to the uninitiated?

Permaculture (permanent agriculture) is a way of designing gardens that mimic nature. When we use nature as our template, we create gardens that perpetuate and thrive without all the buyins, and even when we cannot attend them. Reflect on a forest – there’s no gardener and no need for fertiliser, because everything that grows is returned to the soil.
