What’s not to love about Bonfire Night on 5th November? These days, most people attend a formal display rather than hosting their own event. Fireworks, a huge bonfire, toffee apples, maybe a mulled wine or two – yum! But how many of us really know the traditions that lie behind it? Yes, we know that Guy Fawkes tried to blow up the House of Parliament back in the 17th century and failed – but who was he really, and why did he try and do that?
