Pike’s Adventure

Zebulon M. Pike came from an army family. His father, Zebulon Pike, was fighting in the American Revolutionary War (1775–1783) when he was born in New Jersey 1779. The younger Pike then grew up in a series of military posts in the Northwest Territory to which his father was assigned after the war. He joined the U.S. Army, too. He served in several military posts before receiving orders to explore the upper Mississippi River in 1805.
