924 The Front-Engine Porsche

Porsche is, most people would agree, one of the most-respected performance-car brands in the world, and has been for decades. From its first little, stark coupes and roadsters to the current supercars, Porsche has introduced one stunning sports car after another.

Yet, on one or two occasions, Porsche seems to have not quite hit the target. The 914 is a good example; it was derided by some as a glorified Volkswagen (not helped by the fact that it was sold as a VW in Europe), although today, it’s a highly collectible automobile.

Another good example of a Porsche that wasn’t always beloved is the subject of this column, the Porsche 924. But before we get into that car, let’s do a quick review
