Shooting stars of the future

Readers may recall British Shooting’s appeal to recruit more women Olympic Skeet athletes (Sporting Gun, Snapshots, June ‘21) to address the UK’s shortage in this regard.

The initiative is headed up by Nicki Wakeford, British Shooting’s Talent Pathway coach, and has seen the creation of a new women’s Olympic Skeet Talent Squad, a vehicle that will fast-track novices to compete at the highest level.

A squad isn’t a squad until it has members, which is a problem Nicki faces while female Olympic Skeet (OS) shots are as hard to find as a taxi in a rainstorm.

British Shooting put the word out that she’d host a Talent Squad ID Day at the end of July
