Remembering Albert Pick, my Best German Friend; Colin Bruce, Multi-talented Co-worker

In my many years of involvement with the numismatic profession, I have enjoyed my close relationship with a great many scholars and researchers in the field. I thought it would be appropriate at this time to express some personal thoughts about two individuals with whom I was in virtually constant contact over an extended period.

As publicized so well when it happened, the renowned paper money scholar and author Albert Pick died in Germany November 21, 2015 at the age of 93. It was my privilege to have worked closely with “Albert,” as he agreed I could address him. To be able to do thus to a German means he has accepted the fact that you and he are close enough friends that first names are applicable. He always referred to me as his “best American friend” and I reciprocated
