At your service
After recent experiences of post-lockdown touring, I wonder if, in addition to the motorhome-friendly parking guide, MMM should consider adding a feature on service stations.
Since my wife and I left home in east Kent in the early 70s to pursue careers in Merseyside, East Yorkshire, Lincolnshire and now Essex, we have spent hours of ‘fun’ trekking up and down motorways and major trunk roads. This was mainly to visit relatives back in Kent, sampling the delights of service stations along the way.
We have been motorhoming now for over 12 years and have come to appreciate just how varied the offerings of UK service stations can be and how that experience can differ between car drivers and other users. I understand that many motorhomers prefer to avoid the major trunk road system but, for some of us, it’s a quick and easy method of getting to our preferred touring areas. For those of us who have little alternative other than to use motorways, it becomes clear that anyone not in a car is often a second-class citizen.
On a recent tour to the Cotswolds and north Devon, I was pleasantly surprised by layouts at Oxford and Beaconsfield services (both on the M40), where motorhomes and caravans are directed to parking areas close to the main building, one shared with coaches. On other sites, motorhomes have to take their luck in the HGV car park with a lengthy walk to the main buildings, dodging trucks along the way. Once you get there the hot food offerings are too often limited to burgers and fried chicken. Healthy eating anyone?
I have already started a personal list of service stations to avoid.

ED We’re still compiling information for the next motorhome-friendly parking guide so keep sending them in. If there is enough interest we will add a service station section, too – just email us at mmm@warnersgroup.co.uk with suggestions.
Where in the rust?
I have a 2002 Auto-Trail Cheyenne six-berth motorhome based on a Fiat Ducato 2.8JTD chassis and am interested in getting the vehicle rustproofed.
I seem to remember there was a letter in one of the issues recommending a company; however, I am unable to find the letter using the MMM Index facility.
Can you help or do you have any recommendations.

ED We suggest using the search function at Exact Editions reader.exacteditions.com/magazines/23799
We did a check and found a list of results. There was a letter in January 2021, while there was also a project feature in October 2019.
Eric later replied and said he had tried the Exact search
