I was most interested to read ’10 Best Cruising Destinations for Book Lovers’ (, September 2021) and especially the first: Soay, Inner Hebrides. While sailing my Sadler Starlight 35 in July I was enticed to drop anchor in the larger bay – Camas Nan Gall on the south east side of Soay, having recently read a story of life on Soay: , by Anne Cholawo. She describes how she fell in love with the island, bought a cottage and moved there in 1989, leaving behind her busy lifestyle and London career, and her life on Soay to the present time. Exploring ashore with crew mate Tom Harper it for its history of the island, its colourful inhabitants, which includes Gavin Maxwell’s enterprise, and for Anne’s own remarkable voyages across to Skye.
