Wellington-based Sue Orr’s second novel, after the acclaimed The Party Line, takes as its starting point the period when New Zealand women had to fly to Australia if they needed an abortion. When her plane is delayed on the tarmac, the central character, Charlie, decides not to go to Australia and have the procedure. The book describes the consequences of that decision in the present day.
