COVID-19 has dominated our health and headlines for the past 18 months. While the vaccination programme has seen a decline in hospital admissions and deaths, there’s one part of the pandemic that isn’t going away – long COVID. To date, around 150,000 people in the UK have died from COVID-19, but a government study estimates that two million Brits have experienced or are still experiencing ongoing symptoms from their original infection. As a result, membership at online support groups – set up for long COVID sufferers (or ‘long haulers’ as they are known) – has swelled to tens of thousands, and more than 80 long COVID clinics have opened.
