WHAT IS FUSSY CUTTING?
Fussy cutting is the art of selecting specific areas of a fabric to appear in a patchwork shape. Most of us fussy cut more often than we realise, often just by moving our quilting ruler an inch or so one way or another to select an area of the fabric we like. In this month’s Essential Guide, we will be looking at more deliberate fussy cutting techniques and ways that they can be used with English paper piecing (EPP). Of course, fussy cutting can be used with machine piecing too.
I love fussy cut English paper piecing and really enjoyed making the samples for this month’s feature. English paper piecing may be an old technique but still has great relevance today, allowing us to create designs that would be difficult to piece wholly by machine. It is also an excellent technique to showcase fussy cutting and here we will look at ways to.
