Rob and Laura Birch, by now old friends, met us in Port Elizabeth for the two-hour drive to their lodge. We arrived mid-afternoon, settled in, and still had time for an evening game drive. The hunt would not start until the following day as our PH, Tex Wormald, was still working with another hunter. Rhys Titmus had been videoing hunts for a group of Canadian hunters, and offered to stay and video our hunt. We had never considered a video. Carole and I talked it over. In a month I would be 75; this might be our last guided hunt. Why not a video? It would be a great reminder of the African hunting adventures we had shared over the past decade. I had originally discussed the possibility of a management cow with Rob, but now a bull seemed more appropriate. A representative trophy would be fine; I did not need a huge bull. Rob had a couple of management bulls - I would try for one of those.
