Wildcats’ comeback

Britain’s rarest mammal, the European wildcat, is set to return to English woodlands for the first time in over 200 years. The Wildwood Trust is fundraising for a conservation project that will reintroduce them to Kent and Devon. Work has already started on 10 specially built breeding enclosures. Each will house a pair of wildcats, whose kittens will be released into the surrounding woodlands when ready. Often mistaken for tabby cats, these elusive felines are heavier and have distinctive markings. Discover more about
