CONFESS’S SECOND ALBUM, 2015’s In Pursuit of Dreams, had barely been out two weeks when the band’s founder, Nikan Khosravi, was arrested by 10 members of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard in his Tehran home. As an Iranian metal musician, Nikan had always known his music was going to ruffle feathers, but he didn’t expect to be sent straight to prison under charges of blasphemy and propaganda against the state.
