My parents got divorced when I was six months old. And at first I lived with my mum, who comes from the circus. She was a trapeze artist, contortionist, standing on horses – she did all that. My mum, my uncle, my uncle’s brother, they were all in the circus. I remember as a young kid, before I was five, going to see my relatives in the circus. This was in the early ’70s so they had lots of animals; four lions, six monkeys, an elephant, all chained up in cages. If you tell people that they say, how cruel you were. But that was the way the world worked then.

I think I had a kind of a fairytale life for a while. But you know, the first thing I would love to change in my life is that I wish my parents had not divorced. Because after that
