NEWS FEBRUARY 2005

Sailor Ellen MacArthur set the record for the fastest solo circumnavigation of the globe on 7 February, completing a voyage of 71 days, 14 hours, 18 minutes and 33 seconds. Her record time stood for just under three years before Frenchman Francis Joyon, whose February 2004 record was beaten by MacArthur, beat it by almost two weeks in January 2008.
