It is really worthwhile to make the most of the relatively quiet-in-the-garden days of January, getting all of those small jobs done. You’ll thank yourself when the new growing season is in full swing, just a few weeks away now.
I try to get outside as much as possible even on the most miserable of days. It is surprising how much brighter even a dark day is once you step outside, and how spending time in the fresh air can really lift the spirits. Spreading a centimetre or two of compost on any beds that have not had their annual mulch is a good way to burn off
