The last generation

The introduction of the Ford Series 10 tractors in 1981 was a sign of just how mechanically complicated farm tractors were now becoming. Equipped, as they were, with synchromesh transmissions, ever more comfortable cabs, factory fitted four-wheel drive and higher-capacity back ends.

The original Series 10 tractors had some teething issues but, in general, they were very well built and received favourably by the farming public. Gradual evolution saw the Force II versions arrive in 1985, which brought the flat-floor Super-Q cab to the higher-specification tractors, along with many other performance tweaks, together with a fantastic new look.

Even at the introduction of Force II, the future was being written as other manufacturers started to embrace new electronic technology in their tractor ranges, most notably
